It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have already been conquered.

We're talking about the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and once went 1,294 days undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, those for the peak baggers, are what's still available for a side that has won it all.

The fact it required up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in the female 50-over format, is, honestly, a testament to the bowlers that have sported the yellow jersey over five decades.

It's difficult for their hitters to maintain a record if never given the opportunity.

Finally, the consequence of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy being given an opportunity to create her newest gem.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has witnessed all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory arrived three months after her debut and seven world titles have resulted from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India momentarily interrupted the winning streak.

That loss "drove us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy commented earlier.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was named player of the tournament. She made sure her country would not fail again.

The question of whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement can be debated.

Many contend the reasoning behind final game tension. Some might respond with the test that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was considerably tougher to anticipate.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 occurred when she led the batting statistics, but this innings followed six innings in India over the past few weeks in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it was a disappointing period because it seemed my form was missing at all," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your fighting spirit activate and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has always been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

A single came off the bowler's initial ball and from that point the batsman was underway.

"An opportunity to go out there and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment in that regard, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at a World Cup - and her century in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, scoring 21 fours and three big hits.

When she was dismissed the team needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I'm pleased we have the confidence to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to do it again but, if necessary, we believe we can achieve it."

Those words will be the final thing rival teams at this World Cup need to hear.

Over the past five days a feeling they will triumph from any situation has only strengthened - this success following win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they were eliminated from last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to ruptured tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the first time at an important competition.

So strong is her resolve, she later said she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

But while she afterwards confessed those physical issues have delayed consideration of ending her career, this tournament is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as leader.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her final mountain.
