Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.
The former head of state was found guilty of planning a armed takeover in the ninth month and sentenced more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he remained under house arrest pending appeals.
Top Judicial Official Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after recent developments came to light.
This included attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a call for a demonstration that could enable a chance to flee".
Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns
In a paperwork permitting the arrest, Justice Moraes said data from the centre monitoring Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his getaway".
This, it said, would be made easier by the confusion caused by the protest called by his son.
His offspring, Flávio, who holds office as a congressional representative, called for a gathering of his followers near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday night.
His son wrote on digital networks on Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your homeland, or watch it all from your smartphone there on your settee? I call on you to struggle with us."
He said the vigil would be so followers could offer prayers for his well-being and for the restoration of democratic rule in our country."
Diplomatic Refuge Fears
Part of the magistrate's determination was the possibility of his move to diplomatic missions near the home, considering that the investigations revealed a record of planning to seek refuge through a diplomatic representation", a announcement said.
The legal document highlights that the US embassy in the federal district, Brasilia, is located around 13km from his dwelling.
International Reactions
Bolsonaro's legal woes have generated frustration from fellow populist conservative American leader Trump, prompting him to enact a 50% tariff on Brazilian product imports.
The former president is being kept in a federal law enforcement building in the capital and will experience a detention review on the following day.
Recent Legal Requests
It was only on Friday that the former president's lawyers asked the High Court to authorize him to complete his entire prison term under home confinement, with digital surveillance.
They also petitioned that Bolsonaro be permitted to exit his dwelling for medical treatment, saying he needed regular treatment for lung conditions and other health problems.
Details of Guilty Verdict

At the moment, his attorneys called the decades-long sentence unreasonably severe".
He was also prohibited from running for public office until twenty-sixty - a decade minus two years after the end of his sentence.
