Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences growing in strength within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then settled his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as key figures in the influential clan could enable the group access locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
