Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, trailing 36 points Norris, finished in 17th position as his team followed a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th place, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
